Who is Ron Paul?

This is Ron Paul:

He had me at "Constitution".
What about you?

This video is professional and informative. It is a great introduction for those who would like to learn where Ron Paul stands. BTW, the CNN Situation Room segment shown at the beginning of this video is one of the better overall candidate bios that I have seen in awhile.

His foreign views are nice, but what about domestic? From what I have seen, he will leave major decisions like abortion and same sex marriage to the state. States have shown that they don't care about life or God's design for marriage, nor what He says about homosexuality. That is why I can't support him. If you can show me where he believes different, send it to me.

If you actually knew how this country was set up, then you would know that those aren't federal responsibilities. Have you ever heard of states rights? That is the balance to the federal rights. If you don't like the laws of your state you are free to move to a different one. If you don't like the laws of America you can't move to a different one.

Personally, I think abortion is disgusting and wrong. I think people use abortion as a method of birth control which is disgusting. However, what someone does with their body is none of my business. What someone does halfway across the country from me has no effect on me and therefore it should be ruled locally not federally.

Probably a bad idea to quote Andrew Jackson if you want the Indian vote, LOL! (Just kidding, I know Ron Paul did not produce the YouTube piece)

Definitely food for thought since I am none to pleased with the rest of the "pick-ins" out there.

He seems like he is actually "real". Someone to research more about.

Betsy, This is straight from RonPaul2008.com:

"The right of an innocent, unborn child to life is at the heart of the American ideals of liberty. My professional and legislative record demonstrates my strong commitment to this pro-life principle.

In 40 years of medical practice, I never once considered performing an abortion, nor did I ever find abortion necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.

In Congress, I have authored legislation that seeks to define life as beginning at conception, HR 1094.

I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn.

I have also authored HR 1095, which prevents federal funds to be used for so-called “population control.”

Many talk about being pro-life. I have taken direct action to restore protection for the unborn.

As an OB/GYN doctor, I’ve delivered over 4,000 babies. That experience has made me an unshakable foe of abortion. Many of you may have read my book, Challenge To Liberty, which champions the idea that there cannot be liberty in a society unless the rights of all innocents are protected. Much can be understood about the civility of a society in observing its regard for the dignity of human life. "

Betsy-

Your understanding of Ron Paul's position is correct. However, as a Christian and an American, I do not see anything un-Christian or un-American about his position. His view is Constitutional and is in line with the personal accountability and free will with which God created Men.

As I have thought out my response to your concerns, I have realized that there are many facets which would make wonderful "discussions" in and of themselves. So I am going to write a series of posts (as I have time - read: when I have an urgent need to procrastinate) addressing what I understand to be a Scriptural view of the Christian's role in politics (specifically American politics and the issues you raised as well as other "hot button" issues in this election cycle). I hope that you and other readers will take part in this virtual discussion, and I specifically invite lurkers to take this opportunity to comment.

Blessings!

Thanks for YOUR kind response. I understand the whole constitution and state view, and that he has some conservative beliefs. This is what I can't get past...the Libertarian Party plateform wants to legalize abortion (already is!), drugs, prostitution and other sexual freedoms (same sex marriage), and let each state decide. How could someone choose to stand by and do that when they know that babies would continue to be killed? And allowing these new things to become legal would cause more problems. Really, I am just praying for the Lord's return!!
