Inauguration Day

The transition from President Washington to President Adams is notable because is was a peaceful transition from one head of the Executive Branch to another. The transition from President Adams to President Jefferson is notable because it was also a peaceful transition and followed a very contentious election. In fact, John Adams was not even invited to Jefferson's inauguration and left the White House at dawn with no fanfare to maintain the peace and solemnity of the occasion. Every inauguration since is notable because, despite hotly contested elections, revolution has been avoided and peace has prevailed. It is truly awe-inspiring.

Executive Oath of Office

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
-United States Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Clause 8

That's why it should be a private affair, without fear of the constituents taking the class out of the occasion.

I love my country and the freedoms we have, but to hear that the audience booed President Bush and sang "Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye", screams a bit to me like a high school pep rally. Which is where many of Americans have seemed to stop maturing and learning.

I did not vote for President Obama, but I would have been thrilled to have witnessed his inauguration live and been part of that day. I would not have booed him nor sang disrespectful songs about him regardless how I feel about his politics (and the fact that I would have been pummeled on). Being the President of The United States puts one in a unique position, one that should be looked upon with some honor.

I agree that the inauguration is a great thing to witness, but how embarrassing that the rest of the planet gets to witness the class of the average American. No wonder they make fun of us, LOL!

Okay, off my soapbox now! Thanks for letting me vent La by bringing it up!

I don't mind it being public, but I think it needs to be less of a production.

I was watching online, so I only tuned in long enough for the swearing in. I didn't hear the negative calls that you did. When did that occur? (Of course, now I am noticing that you heard it, so maybe you weren't watching, but if you could find out from your "source" *grin* I'd like to know.)
